Similar to how WRs have displaced RBs as the kings of offensive fantasy football, EDGE players have displaced LBs for IDP. This class of rookie EDGE rushers has a lot of talent, but a lot of flaws as well. How do these EDGEs stack up pre-draft?
EDGE players can set your IDP squad up for the future if you hit on the right one. The 2024 class has multiple highly talented prospects who could turn the tides of your league. On to the Rookie EDGE prospects!
1. Dallas Turner, Alabama
Measurables:
- DOB (age): 2/2/03 (21)
- Height: 6026
- Weight: 247
- 40-yard dash/10-yard split: 4.46/1.61
- Jumps (Vert/Broad): 40.5”/10’07”
- Agility (Shuttle/3-cone): DNP
Strengths:
- Elite athlete, even for smaller size
- Great first step and closing speed
- Able to rush with speed and power
- Scheme versatile, 3-4 or 4-3 rusher
- Good run defender and able to drop into zone coverage proficiently
Weaknesses:
- Undersized rusher
- Needs to get stronger at the point of attack
- Not many countermoves at this point, needs to upgrade his package.
Team Fits:
- Atlanta Falcons
- Chicago Bears
- Denver Broncos
- Minnesota Vikings
Fantasy Analysis:
Turner is the clear top man in this class for fantasy and actual league purposes. His elite athletic ability combined with pass rush skills are unmatched in this class. Add in his clean medicals, and versatility to play the run and even drop into coverage will give him a high floor as well. He could turn into Josh Allen, who is coming off of a breakout 17.5 sack season. Turner does not project to be a consistent 1 sack/game player (nor does Allen), but a baseline of 7+ sacks and making plays in the run game (like a Josh Sweat)keeps his floor and ceiling very high.
